I don’t know whether you feel the same, but every year I look forward to the moment I can finally bring out my autumn clothes. Shorts and vest tops are lovely in summer, but after a few months I’m ready for jeans, shirts, sweatshirts and, above all, jackets. Outfits always feel so much more interesting once I can start layering again.
I was born in October, so I’ll admit that autumn is still my favourite season. I love the rain, red and orange leaves, slightly grey days and the whole mood that comes with them. It’s probably my melancholic side, haha!
The seasonal wardrobe switch
This time it’s official: I’ve put away the shorts, vest tops, sandals and flimsy dresses and replaced them with jeans, jumpers and jackets. I’ve also packed away the few brighter colours I wear in summer, although let’s be honest, there weren’t many to begin with! Since having my colours analysed, I have a better idea of what suits me, and my wardrobe has become fairly understated, with lots of black, khaki, navy and denim.

This change of season comes just after the big clear-out I did while moving house. So I tried not to put absolutely everything back in my wardrobe. Some pieces had been packed away for months and I hadn’t missed them once, which answers the question “will I actually wear this?” rather quickly.
The outfits I couldn’t wait to wear again
In autumn, I always return to the same combinations: jeans with a sweatshirt and trainers, a shirt with wide-leg trousers, or a T-shirt under a jacket. Nothing complicated, but these are the outfits I feel best in. It’s exactly what I wore in My look of October 8th, With a plaid shirt from the brand Bsbee, a pair of raw jeans and my Air Max 1s!

I was also happy to find this striped pair of trousers from Laurence Bras with my dark green uniqlo sweater. It’s exactly the kind of outfit I like: comfortable, quite simple, but with enough details so that you don’t feel like you’re wearing the first thing you found in the closet. Even though, sometimes, that’s exactly what happened.

Then I could finally bring out my Jimmy Choo boots! I wore them with black shorts and a navy jacket in my outfit from 27 September. It was the perfect moment for bare legs with boots, before putting the shorts away for good.

My favourite jackets are back
The first pieces I brought out were my two Acne Studios bomber jackets, one black and one khaki. I’ve worn them for years and never tire of them: with jeans, a shirt or a sweatshirt, they always work. These are exactly the pieces I want to keep now, the ones I know inside out and am always pleased to see again at the start of the season.

I also own several parkas, a little nod to Liam Gallagher, obviously! If you’ve read my article about the Oasis documentary, that won’t surprise anyone. My Stone Island is particularly useful at this time of year: light enough for the milder days, but invaluable as soon as it starts raining. With jeans and trainers, I could wear it almost every day.
The Starter jacket I found in London
I was equally pleased to bring out my Starter Texas jacket, which Greg found at Modfather in Camden. It makes the whole outfit, so I simply wear it with jeans and trainers. It also reminds me of that day in London with Greg and the moment we found it in the shop. Yes, I can become very attached to a jacket, but I think you had already gathered that.
Rediscovering what I already own
Ultimately, what I like most about this change in season is the feeling of finding new clothes without having to buy anything. After the move, I can see much more clearly what I own and what I really want to wear. That’s also the case with my favorite Marni bag, which I’ve owned since I was 21 and still wear with so many of my outfits.
I didn’t become a minimalist overnight and I still love clothes, especially jackets... On the other hand, I feel much less inclined to buy a new version of something I already have. Taking out my bomber jacket, my Stone Island jacket, my Starter jacket or my boots reminds me that my favorite outfits are often made up of the pieces that have been there for years.
What about you?

Are you sad to put away your summer clothes, or are you like me and delighted to have your jeans, boots and jackets back? Tell me which piece you bring out first every autumn. I’m curious!
