Hôtel Amour Paris Review: Dinner, Prices and Why I Still Prefer Nice

I had wanted to visit Hôtel Amour Paris for a while, not simply because it appears all over Instagram, but because I already knew — and loved — the one in Nice.

I've been there twice and, so far, it's my favourite hotel.

When Greg and I went to Paris, we decided it was finally time to try the Paris address. We only came for dinner, so I cannot review the rooms, but I can tell you exactly what the restaurant was like.

You immediately recognise the world of Hôtel Amour

As soon as you arrive in front of the hotel, you recognise it straight away. The pink sign, the pink walls, the blue everywhere... I really like this combination of colours. It might be kitsch, but frankly, it works.

That's precisely what I like most about Amour. No matter the city, you find the same identity, without feeling like you're in a copy of the first hotel.

As a web designer, I always pay attention to those kinds of details. I look at the colours, the typography, the way a place is designed. With them, everything is consistent. Even before going inside, you already know where you are. That is also what inspired me to tell why I launched my web design studio in Paris.

Inside, I found again that atmosphere I already loved in Nice. There's colour, plants, objects everywhere. You want to look up, to take in the details. Personally, this is the kind of place where I could stay for a long time without looking at my phone.

My honest review of the Hôtel Amour Paris restaurant

We were there for dinner. I had the croquettes that you see in the photos, as well as other small sharing plates.

It was good.

Still, I left slightly disappointed.

I found it expensive for what we ate. Nothing was bad — far from it — but at that price I expected a little more.

Same here for the service.

Nobody was unpleasant, but something was missing. At those prices, you naturally expect to feel a little more looked after.

If a friend asked my opinion before going, I'd simply tell them to look at the menu before booking. That way, there are no surprises.

Why I still prefer Hôtel Amour Nice

Even though I enjoyed discovering the one in Paris, I still prefer Nice.

Firstly because I know it a bit better, I've been twice, I've slept there and I've really had the time to enjoy it.

But above all, I find the atmosphere is different. In Nice, there's the rooftop, the beach right next door, and much more space. When you walk through the door, I really feel like I've arrived at a holiday home.

It's difficult to explain, but you immediately feel it's relaxed.

In Paris, the space is smaller. You find the same codes, the same identity, but I didn't feel that sensation that I love so much in Nice.

I had also expected to see the lobby and its merchandise — I LOVE Hôtel Amour merchandise. The restaurant has a separate entrance in Paris, whereas in Nice you walk through the hotel lobby first.

And I must admit, I found we ate better there. But as always, that's just my personal opinion!

Would I go back to Hôtel Amour Paris?

Absolutely!

Firstly because I would like to see the rooms, and I am curious to discover the rest of the hotel.

Then, despite my reservations about the restaurant, I find the place is worth a visit. If only for its decor and identity, it's a venue I'd been wanting to see for a long time.

I really like hotels that have a true identity, even when I don't necessarily sleep there. Besides, I was recently telling you about our night at Alfred Hotels in Toulouse, in a completely different style to the Hôtel Amour but which, there too, had loads of interior design details that I loved. I definitely don't regret going, however, if I had to choose between the two today, I'd still book the Hôtel Amour Nice without hesitation.

My final verdict

If you are looking for a restaurant in Pigalle with a distinctive identity, Hôtel Amour Paris is worth visiting. Check the menu and prices before booking, though. If you are choosing between Paris and Nice, my heart still belongs to Nice.
