Mucha on Your Skin: Wearing Art Nouveau

There are projects that require a form of loyalty. Not just time, but a real desire to return, to build something that isn't immediately apparent. And it sometimes takes many tattoo sessions for that.

A message in a bottle

I often publish projects like this. An idea, an artistic direction, an image launched without really knowing what it will become. We're in a world of likes, of shares, of numbers that give the impression that if it doesn't get 200 reactions, it doesn't exist. So, we watch. 20 likes. We think, "Well... this is never going to take off.".

But one person is enough. Not twenty, not forty. One. One arm. Thomas.

From Paris to Avignon

Thomas is from Paris. He had therefore seen on Instagram my proposal for this full arm piece inspired by Mucha, published as an open idea. He wrote to me quickly, then took the train to Avignon to start this project. Frankly, I didn't believe it. But he came, and let's just say we've had a lot of sessions behind us.

Since then, the arm has been slowly taking shape. Many sessions in the studio, two full days at the Marseille convention, and soon the project will be finished.

A small detail: Thomas is almost two metres tall, so naturally, a project like this takes on a different scale. The skin becomes a larger space, more demanding too.

What I like about Mucha

What I like about Mucha's universe isn't solely the aesthetic. It's the way everything feels naturally fluid. The figures never seem static. The ornaments extend the lines of the body. Nothing tries to be demonstrative. This is also what sustains My approach to Art Nouveau tattooing, where composition always accompanies body movement.

For this arm, the idea wasn't to reproduce a poster or copy a style. I wanted to capture a feeling. Something soft, almost old-fashioned, with colours that are more reminiscent of a painting than a classic tattoo.

The colour palette

Slightly faded greens, powdery pinks, very soft blues. Nuances that gradually find their place. This type of colour takes time, because depth needs to be built without losing lightness.

Long sessions

Each session brings a new reading of the project. One part reveals the next. Certain areas remain open for several weeks before finding their balance. This is often the case on the Large tattoo projects, where the whole is built up progressively rather than in a single step.

Perhaps this is what I love most about big projects: the feeling that they never reveal themselves entirely at once. They are built like a story that you write slowly, with confidence, patience, and a real desire to see it through to the end.

An article dedicated to this project is also available on the studio's website. Graphicaderme, where I regularly create Art Nouveau compositions and large-scale colour projects.

Do you offer full Art Nouveau arm projects in colour?

Yes, that's a format I offer regularly. Each project is designed based on morphology and desires. To discuss it, it's best to go through the Contact Form or to write to me about Instagram.

How many sessions are needed for a full arm?

It depends on many things, the size of the arm, the complexity of the project, how the skin heals. For a project like Thomas's, we're talking about numerous sessions spread over several months. It's a commitment over time, not a decision to be taken lightly.

Do you travel for conventions?

Yes, I regularly attend conventions, including those in Avignon, Marseille, and Cantal Ink The Skin in Chaudes-Aigues. It is possible to continue an ongoing project or start a new one. Dates are announced on Instagram and the blog.

Do you work with clients from other cities?

Absolutely, a large portion of my clientele comes from Paris, Lyon, Marseille, or abroad. The Graphicaderme studio is in Avignon, easily accessible by train.

How do I make an appointment?

Via the Contact Form or directly on Instagram.
