Last October 27th, I was a guest on the Ici Vaucluse show hosted by Maxime Peyron. The idea was simple: give listeners a voice to share their tattoo-related anecdotes. True stories, scars to cover up, first tattoos, pieces that take on a different meaning over time. The kind of conversations we have every day in the studio, but this time live on the radio.
My father on the phone
Stéphane Chaudesaigues was working from home. With his background, there was no shortage of topics. We revisited the opening of Graphicaderme In 1986 in Avignon, his years in the United States, his connection with the National Tattoo Association, the conventions, the encounters. Decades of tattooing told simply.
It's always interesting to hear him talk about that era. Tattooing in France in the 80s, it's really another world.

My journey
From my perspective, I spoke about my own journey. My experience in Canada, my time at Chevrolet, and then this return to tattooing – not a pre-planned trajectory, but something that happened naturally at a specific moment. Returning to that world with a different perspective, informed by other experiences.

What I liked about this exchange
The diversity of experiences. For some listeners, the tattoo was linked to a scar to cover. For others, an old tattoo to transform. Sometimes an aesthetic desire, sometimes something more personal. And all of this coexisted naturally in the discussion.
This is exactly what we experience in the salon. The reasons for getting a tattoo are as varied as the people who sit in the chair.

A cover-up is a new tattoo done over an old one to hide or transform it. It requires consideration of colour, composition, and placement. Not everything can be covered by just anything; each project is assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Yes, on an old and well-healed scar. The idea isn't necessarily to completely mask it; sometimes it's incorporated into the composition, given another dimension. It's a job that requires experience and a good understanding of the skin.
