Café Berry Paris: ten years later, still my favourite brunch spot in the Marais

I've known Café Berry since it opened, almost ten years ago now.

My big sister Shirley had just opened at 10 rue Chapon in le Marais, and since then, I've really seen the cafe evolve with each of my visits to Paris.

The décor has changed, as has the menu, the dishes have become even more beautiful, and the entire image of Café Berry has truly come into its own.

Café Berry's Ten Years

When I look back to the beginning, I see how much the coffee has changed.

I used to come to Paris from time to time to see my sister, and I would discover new things several months later, sometimes even years. A new menu, a different decor, new dishes, a new identity.

Over the years, Shirley has really evolved the address. Since she's been with Jey (her darling), they've pushed the project even further together.

Café Berry has never been stuck in its first version, and that's a good thing!

So naturally, I love it.

Right, we're going to get down to business.

I'm a Libra, so I hesitate all the time, and at some point, I think you have to stop overcomplicating things. We'll take everything, and at worst... we'll take it home with us.

The Turkish eggs were also far too good. The eggs, the tomatoes, the herbs, the well-spiced sauce… everything went wonderfully together. It’s the dish I’d have when I fancy something a bit fresher, but still really satisfying.

The grilled cheese, same. Very simple on paper, but really well done. And it's typically the kind of dish where you tell yourself you'll just try a bite, then in fact you demolish the whole thing.

So then, the granola...

Sincerely, this is the best granola of my life.

We have to go and try this immediately. The yoghurt, the fruit, the granola, everything is perfectly balanced. It's neither too dry nor too sweet. And yet, I never thought I'd be able to talk about granola with such seriousness; they're often unremarkable and overlooked.

The dishes look really appetising

What I like about Café Berry is that everything looks appetising as soon as the plates arrive.

It's colourful, generous, well-presented, but above all, it's not just about the photo. The taste follows suit.

That doesn't happen at Berry's.

The portions are good, the dishes are well-prepared, and frankly, the prices match what comes out of the kitchen, which is normal.

Shirley and Jey have really moved Café Berry forward.

Since Shirley has been with Jey, they've really moved Café Berry forward together.

It's visible on the menu, but also in the entire image of the café. The logo has changed, merchandise has taken a real prominent place, the colours are bolder, and everything feels much more thought-out than at the start. And that's normal, we all evolve with time.

They managed to evolve the place without making it too bland. The place remains lively, people are talking, there's work happening behind the counter.

The small terrace

It's not huge, so it can get busy quickly, especially at the weekend. But when you manage to get a table outside, it's really pleasant. You can enjoy the neighbourhood, eat well, and watch the people go by.

It's chill.

When to come to Café Berry?

Weekends can get busy quickly. I'd advise you to come quite early.

At worst, you take it. At best, like us, you finish it all.

A second Berry, Rue Chapon

Shirley and Jey are soon to open a second Café Berry on Chapon Street. I can't say any more for the moment, because the rest has to remain a surprise.

After ten years of watching the first coffee shop evolve, it's great to see them launch a second location together.

My opinion on Café Berry

Everything is good. The dishes are beautiful, generous, and truly well-prepared. The terrace is pleasant, the prices are fair, and the cafe's image has evolved enormously in recent years.

The granola is almost worth the trip on its own.

Promise, you won't be disappointed.
