I discovered the Acne Studios shower gel and body milk by Frédéric Malle at their launch in Paris. I recounted that evening in Launch of the Acne Studios cream and soap by Frédéric Malle.
Here, I mainly wanted to talk about the products after using them at home.
The bottles are very beautiful, obviously. But the most interesting thing is their scent, especially when you use the trio with the perfume.
Acne Studios by Frédéric Malle
The shower gel and body milk capture the exact scent of the Frédéric Malle Acne Studios perfume.
On the skin, I find it soft, clean, musky and slightly powdery. It also has something more peculiar. It smells clean, but not like laundry detergent. It is soft, without becoming bland. And above all, it doesn't resemble all the hyper-sweet perfumes that you smell everywhere.
The real "wow" effect happens when you apply the perfume after the shower gel and lotion.
The three products layer perfectly. The scent becomes more present, more enveloping, and lasts better on the skin.
You really feel that they've been designed to work together.
Acne Studios shower gel
The shower gel comes in a 200 ml pink bottle.
The texture lathers well and the scent is already very noticeable during the shower. After rinsing, the skin retains a light and very clean scent.
I love using it, but I'm not going to empty the bottle like my usual shower gel.
I'm saving it for evenings and special occasions. The trio represents quite a significant expense. So I alternate with other products to avoid getting tired of it and spending all my money on it.
This also helps to maintain the enjoyment. When I pick it up again, I really feel like I'm using something special.
2: Acne Studios body lotion
The body lotion has the same scent.
Its texture is light, it penetrates quickly and doesn't leave the skin sticky. I can get dressed straight after without regretting applying cream straight away.
The scent lasts longer than shower gel, but it remains subtle. I especially like to use it before perfume. The lotion prepares the skin and really prolongs the scent.
The fragrance then appears rounder and more intense, without becoming heavy. It's exactly the kind of ritual I love before an evening out.
The complete trio: shower gel, milk, and perfume
I don't want to choose between the shower gel and the lotion, because I really like both.
The shower gel gives that clean, perfumed skin feeling. The lotion moisturises and prolongs the scent. The perfume finishes it off.
This is where the whole thing really gets interesting.
Personally, I love washing myself, applying a nice-smelling cream, and then finishing off with my favourite perfume.
It might seem simple, but I find it really changes your mood.
Feeling clean, comfortable in your own skin, and smelling good is important. Otherwise, let's be honest, the day doesn't get off to a great start.
Is the price reasonable?
No, clearly not. (personally speaking, of course)
The 200ml shower gel costs 70 € and the 200 ml body cream costs 80 €. Between them, that already represents 150 €, ..., not including the fragrance. These aren't products I buy as an everyday base.
So I don't use them as my main shower gel or my daily moisturiser.
However, for a gift or to mark a special occasion, I find the idea very successful.
It's also a lovely way to prolong a scent that you already like.
You obviously pay for the collaboration, the design, and the Acne Studios universe. But the pleasure doesn't stop at the bottle. The products are genuinely pleasant to use, and the trio makes a real difference to the skin.
My opinion after several uses
I like the shower gel just as much as the body lotion.
The shower gel turns your shower into a truly pleasurable moment. The milk leaves your skin feeling soft and fragranced. Then the perfume adds that truly incredible final touch.
I save them for evenings out, for going out, and for those times when I want to put in a bit more effort with my preparation.
I alternate with other products the rest of the time. This prevents me from getting bored, and my bank account appreciates the effort too.
This trio is obviously not essential. But for a treat, to smell nice and to start an evening feeling really good, I find it very successful.
